EBM Backs Coke Ban

E. B. Magalona Mayor Marvin Malacon yesterday said he is supporting the industry-wide call to ban Coca-Cola products even as the town already signed a sponsorship deal with the company.

“After our Ugyonan Festival, I will ask the Sanggunian Bayan to pass a resolution supporting the boycott of Coke products in the province,” Malacon said.

Outstanding Saraviahanons to be honored

Twelve “Outstanding Saraviahanons” will be honored tomorrow by the municipal government of EB Magalona, in recognition of their contribution to the development of the town.
They are Abang-Lingkod Rep. Stephen Paduano, Bacolod City Division Schools Superintendent Cynthia Demavivas, lawyer Rafael Librando, Visayan DAILY STAR senior reporter Gilbert Bayoran, Commodore Rafael Bolivar (ret), Brig. Gen. Renato Yongque (ret), Emmanuel Diploma, Teofilo Escala, Engr. Nelson Franco, Perla Sodusta, Lora Biñas, and Aquilino Araza.

The Department of Trade and Industry presented a check for P490,000 to persons with disabilities in EB Magalona town yesterday.

Rachel Nufable, DTI chief industry development specialist, said the amount was on top of the P500,000 given to the group in 2014 for the trainings on bamboo crafts like basketry, panggal weaving and house wares, and product development trainings.

They were also trained in entrepreneurship, product costing and a local study mission was also conducted. “We initially provided them P500,000 from the Bottom up Budget of 2014 for the same trainings”, Nufable said.

EB Magalona port to open by end of 2017, mayor says

The port in Brgy. Manta-angan, EB Magalona, Negros Occidental, is expected to be operational by the end of this year, Mayor Marvin Malacon said yesterday.

The port developer, FF Cruz Co. Inc., is presently constructing the port that will connect with the Bay-ang port in Ajuy town, Iloilo.

Sixty-nine couples who are set to tie the knot on Valentine's Day planted mangroves on Friday at Barangay Tuburan in EB Magalona, Negros Occidental.

This is one of the requirements of the local government before the mass wedding on February 14.

“We have to showcase what we have,” Malacon said, adding that the public should to get a taste of the seafood of our town.

One of the most popular is the blue crab that has become an industry, Malacon said.

THE Municipal Government of E.B. Magalona is stepping up its efforts to position the northern town as the seafood capital of Negros Occidental.
