E.B. Magalona seeks to increase seafood production

THE Municipal Government of E.B. Magalona is initiating steps to increase production of seafood products, mainly blue crabs.

Mayor Marvin Malacon, in a press conference at the municipal hall on Tuesday, said the demand for seafood products has been increasing that they are taking measures to ensure sustainability of supply.

Malacon said the municipal government has been doing aggressive campaign against illegal fishing, adding that they have already penalized numerous violators.

EB Magalona Mayor Marvin Malacon announced during a press conference yesterday, the municipality is ready for the 2nd Ugyonan Seafood Festival, which is scheduled to run from December 9 to 11.

He said the event is expected to attract around 3,000 tourists, along with 55 confirmed guests from South Korea.

E.B. Magalona town’s Ugyonan Seafood Festival is all set on December 9 to 11, Mayor Marvin Malacon said yesterday.

Malacon said that they expect the influx of more guests in this year’s celebrations.

“We target to have more than 3,000 tourists during the three-day event,” Malacon said.

THE town of E.B. Magalona in Negros Occidental will hold the Ugyonan Seafood Festival on December 9 to 11.

Mayor Marvin Malacon said they expect blue crabs and other seafoods to entice seafood lovers to come to the festival.

It was launched last year and earned positive feedback from among the townsfolk and visitors.

The blue crabs industry of EB Magalona in Negros Occidental keeps thriving, with the bulk of the crab meat exported to the United States.

Since it is off season for getting crabs from Indonesia and neighboring Asean countries, Ronald Villanueva, owner of the Kyle Seafoods Venture, one of the six crab meat processing plants in EB Magalona, said yesterday that there is a greater demand for crab meat now.

In Negros Occidental alone, about 12 tons of crab meat are produced daily, Villanueva, who is   also the secretary of the Negros Occidental Crab Meat Producers Association Inc., said.

KOREAN company Novotech donated solar-powered streetlights and solar panels to E.B. Magalona town in Negros Occidental recently.

Mayor Marvin Malacon said Thursday, August 31, the old name of E.B. Magalona, which is Saravia, sounds similar to “Asaravia” which means “happy” in Korean.

NOCHP covers 7,067 EB Magalona families

The provincial government of Negros Occidental continues to provide comprehensive health care to Negrenses, with 7,067 families in EB Magalona having been added to its list of recipients.
