E. B. Magalona is national passer of 2024 SGLG awards

The Municipality of E. B. Magalona has just bagged the national 2024 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) awards.

The SGLG Awards is the highest recognition conferred by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to outstanding Local Government Units (LGUs) that are compliant with pertinent national laws and guidelines, and excel in various indicators of good governance. “It symbolizes the DILG's brand of Matino, Mahusay at Maaasahang Pamahalaaang Lokal,” the agency said.

The list of 2024 national awardees was posted by the SGLG on its Facebook page this morning [Nov. 14]. There were 714 awardees which included 41 provinces, 96 cities, and 577 municipalities.

The Municipality of E. B. Magalona was one of only six municipalities in Negros Occidental (out of 19 towns) that made the cut.

Upon learning of this development, Mayor Marvin Malacon said, “This SGLG national award is a testament to our remarkable performance for the past eight years and our strong commitment to improving governance given the day-to-day challenges and needs of our Municipality.”

Malacon is now on his third and last term, having started as mayor in July 2016.

In congratulating the LGUs, the DILG said: "Your commitment to excellence in public service and dedication to the principles of good governance have set a remarkable standard for local leadership. Your unwavering dedication to serving the people is an inspiration to us all."

The SGLG Awards was launched in 2014 and enacted into law in 2019. It is an award and recognition program that aims to improve the performance of local government units (LGUs), and considered the country's most comprehensive assessment of local governance.

The Municipality of E. B. Magalona underwent SGLG national validation on September 9 this year at the Asenso Hall at the Public Plaza.

The SGLG team assessed the performance of E. B. Magalona based on 10 governance areas: (1) Financial Administration and Sustainability, (2) Disaster Preparedness, (3) Social Protection and Sensitivity, (4) Health Compliance and Responsiveness, (5) Sustainable Education, 6) Business-Friendliness and Competitiveness, (7) Safety, Peace and Order, ( Environmental Management, (9) Tourism, Heritage Development, Culture and the Arts, and (10) Youth Development.*
