NOCHP covers 7,067 EB Magalona families

The provincial government of Negros Occidental continues to provide comprehensive health care to Negrenses, with 7,067 families in EB Magalona having been added to its list of recipients.

Cong. Albee Benitez Reaching Out to Informal Settler Families in EB Magalona, Metro 3rd


Focusing on the other “H” in his  METRO 3RD ASENSO –IHELP (infrastructure-health & housing-education & environment-livelihood-policy) PROGRAM, Congressman Alfredo Benitez  initiated an inventory of informal settler families (ISF) and a review of the various housing programs of local government units in the Third District.

EB Magalona gains bared

Neophyte politician Marvin Malacon yesterday said there is still a lot to be done for EB Magalona, a year after being in office as the town mayor.

But Malacon said they have accomplished a lot, especially in the delivery of efficient basic social services, collection of taxes, as well as modest gains in the aspect of education, infrastructure, environment, health, among others.

Due to the efficient collection of business and real property taxes, fees and charges as well as economic enterprise, they collected P21,317, 386.32 in taxes, which exceeded their target of collection of P15 million, he added.

In terms of infrastructure, Malacon said they were able to secure the town public plaza by enclosing it with a perimeter fence, concreting of roads within the poblacion, construction of covered court, crisis center, mini rice mill, day care center and video board, communal toilet, hand washing facilities, terminal for tricycle , putting up of potable water system and ATM in front of the municipal hall.

Under social services, the municipal government provided medical and burial assistance to indigent families of the town, and provided vehicles for teachers as well as vendors in the upland areas to transport their products to the poblacion.

The municipal government also facilitated the availment of residential patent program to 97 residents of Brgy. Tomongtong, EB Magalona, which was conferred with a Gold Seal of Good Local Environmental Governance, Malacon said.

Neg. Occ. PENRO distributes 200 titles to boost agriculture

The Negros Occidental Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office distributed around 200 original land titles this month to boost agricultural activities and provide permanent residences to Negrenses in small villages, PENRO-OIC Edgardo Rostata said yesterday.

Rostata said the distribution of the original land titles is under the HandogTitulo program of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, through the administrative titling of the agency funded through the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program.

Team Talisay remains a force to reckon with as they dominate the basketball and men’s volleyball, while the E.B. Magalona women’s volleyball teams surged to the top during the 4th weekend of the 3rd Albee Cup Inter-LGU Tournament hosted by E.B. Magalona.

Silay men’s spikers suffered twin losses to EBM and Talisay in volleyball games held at the Barangay Tabigue Covered Court. In the women’s category, EBM beat Victorias but the latter bounced back with a win against Silay.

EB Magalona gets P6.4M in projects

The municipality of EB Magalona got P6.4 million worth of projects from the Department of Agriculture and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Mayor Marvin Malacon announced yesterday.

Malacon said the DA, assisted by the municipal government officials, distributed P3.5 million worth of palay and corn drier to farmers in Brgy. San Isidro, EB Magalona, that he expects to boost their production and help uplift their lives.

E.B. MAGALONA – Farmers, fisherfolk, and producers in this northern Negros Occidental town are getting boost through the Agro-Aqua Festival Village which opened at the public plaza on Tuesday.

The activity, part of the week-long celebration of the 28th Ugyonan Festival, brings together products from the seven coastal and four upland barangays of the town.

EB Magalona supports Coke ban

The Coca-Cola beverage company may have signed a contract to be among the sponsors of the ongoing Ugyonan Festival of EB Magalona in Negros Occidental, but Mayor Marvin Malacon said he is supporting the move of other local government units to ban its products in the town.

Malacon, who opened the weeklong Ugyonan Festival celebrations yesterday, said “I am with the banning of Coke products”, adding that the use of high-fructose corn syrup affects the sugar farmers in Negros Occidental.
