E. B. Magalona town Mayor Marvin Malacon yesterday bared the gains made by the municipal government 10 months after he assumed office.

Malacon said that he has improved the social welfare and health of the residents by releasing P30,000 a day for medicines, hospitalization, and burials.

The town receives an Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) of around P6 million for this year.

Among the emergency vehicles the town has received are three firetrucks for the local Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP); two vehicles and three ambulances for the town’s Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO); and various other utility vehicles.

Malacon said, he has also improved the access to Barangay Canlusong, which is the farthest barangay in the municipality, by dispatching some of the town’s utility vehicles to pick-up the farmers’ produce and transport them to the town’s public market.

The town has also bought two municipal buses, in which one will be used to transport college students from the town directly to Bacolod City.

The Mayor pointed out that the reason behind the project is to lessen the financial expenses of the local students’ parents.

The public market is also due for renovation, as he said, adding that the present structure is vulnerable to fire.

He also said that the renovation project will cost around P100 million, with the second floor of the market place being eyed for the town’s tourist inn.

Malacon also assured the increase in the market stalls will only be small and reasonable for occupants.

The coastal road which will extend from Bacolod City to Victorias City will also be a big help to the municipality as it will become easier for local farmers and fishermen to transport their goods to other towns and cities in Negros Occidental, he said.

The local infrastructure has also not been forgotten as they have already started renovating the town plaza and the public stage, as well as road concreting heading to far flung barangays in the municipality, Malacon said.*
