KOREAN company Novotech donated solar-powered streetlights and solar panels to E.B. Magalona town in Negros Occidental recently.
Mayor Marvin Malacon said Thursday, August 31, the old name of E.B. Magalona, which is Saravia, sounds similar to “Asaravia” which means “happy” in Korean.

That made the benefactor interested to donate the solar-powered items worth P500,000 to the municipality.
It all started with their common friends that led to the realization of the donation, the mayor said.
The facilities were installed on August 30 and 31 in Barangays Gahit, 1 and 3.
Malacon said the streetlights will help provide a safer community in their town, and he thanked the donors for their kind gesture and friendship.
Moreover, Malacon said they are also exploring the possibility of availing loans from the Development Bank of the Philippines.
He said they plan to apply for a P150-million loan for the renovation of the public market and P50 million for its water system.
Malacon added that he hopes these projects will push through within this year.
