Winners of ‘Pinta Basurahan’ 2023 contest bared
The entry of the Filipino Department (Entry No. 1) of E. B. Magalona National High School (EBMNHS) was adjudged the champion of the “Pinta Basurahan” 2023 Contest of the Municipality of E. B. Magalona. The group was composed of students Chylynn Mae Suarez, Thoby Rayle Cangas, Selene Fay Delada, and Jessele Cawacas, with teacher-coach Hugo Sombito.
They received P7,000 in cash prize from the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources (MENRO) and additional P1,000 from Barangay Kagawads Association of Saravia (BAKAS) president Matthew Louis Malacon, during the awarding ceremony at the EBMNHS Covered Court Friday [March 3].
The entry of the MAPEH (Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health), which was Entry No. 3, was chosen first runner-up. The group was composed of students Loryl Astodillo, Akira Paredes, Joeriz Kyle Abella, and Lindy Mae Arcenia, with teacher-coach James Madrid Jr.
They received P5,000 in cash from MENRO and additional P1,000 from Kagawad Malacon.
Second runner-up was the entry of ESP (Edukasyon Sa Pagpapakatao), which was Entry No. 6. The group was composed of students Jharil Enierga, Deon Salahog, Alchoe Tafalla, and Rich Mark Papa, with teacher-coach Maricor Ilustrisimo. They received P4,000 in cash prize from MENRO and additional P1,000 from Kagawad Malacon.
The other five entries received a consolation prize of P3,500 each.
Meanwhile, three entries received the Social Media Choice award for garnering the three highest numbers of “heart” reactions on Facebook as posted on the page of the Municipality: Entry No. 5 (Mathematics), Entry No. 7 (Technology and Livelihood Education), and Entry No. 8 (Araling Panlipunan). The three groups received P1,000 in cash prize each.
The board of judges was composed of Jose Sellado, Armand Bagoyo, and Jojo Dellero Denora.
Leading the awarding ceremony were MENRO-designate Jojo Vargas, DepEd- District of E. B. Magalona Cluster 2 supervisor Dr. Romualdo Batallones, and EBMNHS principal Ethel Blancaflor.
The “Pinta Basurahan” Contest was sponsored by the Municipal Government of E. B. Magalona, headed by Mayor Marvin Malacon.
Spearheaded by MENRO, the contest was launched last February 22, in celebration of the National Arts Month.
This was a group painting contest, with eight groups representing the eight academic subjects. The participants came from the Junior High School and Senior High School of EBMNHS.
Each group has four students and one teacher-coach. Each group is given four trash bins on which to paint their artwork.
MENRO provided the participants with paint and brushes, and P500 in cash for extra materials.*
