Public-Private Partnership tapped to accelerate local development in EB Magalona

EB Magalona Mayor Marvin M. Malacon revealed that his administration will be partnering with the private sector to implement various initiatives that will benefit residents and help boost the local economy of the Municipality. This, in turn, is expected to bring more employment opportunities to the residents and increase local taxes, which the local government unit (LGU) can use to expand the delivery of basic social services.

            Last June 06, 2019, a consultative forum with the private sector was held to discuss the TUMANDOK CARES Development Agenda of the administration of Mayor Malacon in his second term as local chief executive. Among the priority projects proposed to be pursued are the construction of the Farm to Market Road/Tourism Highway and the Coastal Road/Tourism Highway, the development of the Malogo River Water and Eco-Tourism, and the establishment of Saravia (3rd District) Trade and Processing Industrial Complex envisioned to be the first Agro-Industrial Processing Zone to be applied under PEZA.

            The said forum was attended by Vice Governor and incoming Governor Bong Lacson, incoming 3rd District Representative Dr. Kiko Benitez, Mr. Roberto L. Montelibano and Frank A. Carbon, President and Chief Executive Officer of Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI), respectively and Mr. Ernie Pestano, Atty. Rolex Suplico of F.F. Cruz Shipping Corporation with the Manager Mr. Rassel Bayle, Mrs. Gina Bautista-Martin, former administrator of the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA), of ASSHI, Mr. Jay Jalandoni of APPCOS, Francis Jalandoni of Associated Planters of Silay- Saravia Inc. (APPSI), Mr. Alfonso Gamboa, Former Mayor and President of Saravia Blue Crab Inc.,  representatives of SIMAG Foundation and other organizations and land owners.

Incumbent SB Member and incoming Vice Mayor Erick D. Matulac together with other incumbent and incoming SB Members were also present during the forum. The Municipal Development Team, composed of heads of different departments and offices, was likewise present.

The updating of the Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) of the Municipality, establishment of local economic and agro-industrial zones and other investment promotions efforts were also discussed.

            Mayor Malacon is thankful for the overwhelming response of the LGU partners in the private sector and the insights, ideas and other suggestions they offered to help the Municipality achieve its vision of local development and upliftment of the lives of the Saraviahanons.
