More than 1,000 EB Magalona families get free housing units

More than 1,000 Saraviahanon families received permanent housing units located in TUMANDOK Village, Brgy. Sto. Niño, EB Magalona in a turn over ceremony held on Monday, February 25, 2019. The activity was led by Negros Occidental 3rd District Cong. Albee Benitez, Chairperson of the House Committee on Housing and Urban Development, municipal officials headed by Mayor Marvin M. Malacon and National Housing Authority (NHA) representatives.

The first batch consisting of 150 families may now occupy the houses. The next batch of around 500 families are currently in the process of requirements compliance and anticipated to obtain their new houses also soon. The primary beneficiaries are the victims of super typhoon Yolanda in the municipality.

Mayor Malacon emphasized the importance of providing appropriate community facilities, amenities and infrastructure support in the relocation site to serve the socio-economic needs and cultural activities of the beneficiaries. A training center, health center, elementary school and a market in the said relocation site will be establish soon. The construction of the covered court is presently ongoing. Mayor Malacon personally thanked Congressman Benetiz, the NHA officials and line agencies for the help extended in realizing the housing project. 

            The beneficiaries are thankful to Cong. Benitez and local government officials headed by Mayor Malacon, and the national government for making project possible.

            “Ako bug-os gid ang akon pasalamat kag malipayon gid ko nakabaton sang benepisyo sang aton pinalangga nga Congressman kag mga opisyales”, said Mr. Alejandro De Alvan, a PWD project beneficiary from Brgy. Damgo living in a makeshift house.

Resettlement and housing programs, especially for the homeless and poor residents are among the priorities of Mayor Malacon under his “TUMANDOK CARES” Development Agenda.
