Message of Mayor Marvin M. Malacon on the commemoration of the 126th anniversary of Philippine Independence and Nationhood

June 12, 2024

Exactly 126 years ago today, on June 12, 1898, General Emilio Aguinaldo proclaimed the Philippine Independence at his ancestral home in Kawit, Cavite.

This annual commemoration of our Independence Day and Nationhood highlights the bravery, resilience, and unity of the Filipinos.

This year’s theme is, "Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan."

May today's celebration remind us of how our forefathers valiantly fought for our national sovereignty so we can regain the many freedoms that we enjoy today.

May their heroism continue to ignite the spirit of nationalism and patriotism in each of us and embolden us to fight for our freedom from modern forms of slavery, oppression, and injustice.

Some of these present-day forms of persecutions are lack of education, unemployment, poverty, drug abuse, social apathy, and deterioration of values.

As a nation, we must rise to break free from this bondage.
Maligayang Araw ng Kasarinlan!

MAYOR MARVIN M. MALACON
