EB Magalona solid waste info campaign program commended

            The solid waste management information and education campaign of the Municipality of EB Magalona was commended during the first quarter meeting of the Negros Occidental Provincial Solid Waste Management Board (PSWMB) held on February 22, 2019  and participated in by the Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Provincial Office, DENR-Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) and representatives from the different local government units (LGUs) of the province.

            Among the matters discussed was the status of compliance of the 32 LGUs in the province to the Republic Act No. 9003, otherwise known as the "Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000”, including the submission and approval of their respective 10-year Solid Waste Management (SWM) Plan presented by Engr. Victor Thomas Ureta. Likewise, the DENR also announced they are extending assistance for the LGUs to be compliant. EB Magalona received an assistance of PHP492,000.00 for the establishment of the central materials recovery facility (MRF) and shredding machine from EMB to capacitate the towns solid waste management program. Lastly, Mr. Jojo Vargas, EB Magalona Municipal Environment Officer, presented the SWM program initiatives of the municipality.

            The meeting was presided by SB Member Eric Matulac representing Mayor Marvin M. Malacon, the Chairperson of the Municipal Solid Waste Management Board. The Municipality of EB Magalona and a number of its public schools were awardees of the Seal of Good Environmental Governance being conferred by the province.

            Natural resources and environmental protection including SWM programs are part of the “TUMANDOK CARES” Development Agenda of the administration of Mayor Malacon.
