The P50 million worth of heavy equipment purchased by the municipal government of EB Magalona is now ready for use, Mayor Marvin Malacon said yesterday.

The heavy equipment, that arrived last week, consist of a bulldozer, grader, backhoe loader and excavator, and two dump trucks, a rescue vehicle and a motorcycle.

The rescue vehicle and the motorcycle are intended for use by the Municipal Disaster Risk and Reduction Management office.

Malacon said the funds allocated for the purchase of heavy equipment are part of the P200 million loan secured from the Land Bank of the Philippines.

He added that the purchase of heavy equipment is expected to fasttrack the ongoing infrastructure projects being undertaken by the municipal government in several town barangays.

Of the P200 million loan, P140 million has been allocated for the construction of the 50-year-old EB Magalona public market, while P10 was earmarked for the computerization project at the municipal hall.

Malacon said the construction of the two-storey public market is targeted to start in April, and expected to be completed within six to eight months.

He added that the affected commercial establishments will be temporarily relocated, pending the construction of the new public market.

Malacon also reported the ongoing P7 million road concreting project connecting Brgys Batea and Manta-angan, with similar infrastructure projects being undertaken in Brgys. San Isidro and Consing that connect to its neighboring areas, through the efforts of Rep. Alfredo Benitez.*
