EB Magalona Municipal Environment Week 2023 kicks off

The observance of the Municipal Environment Week in E. B. Magalona opened with an Environmental Symposium at the Public Plaza on Monday, June 19, 2023.

Spearheaded by the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), the symposium was attended by about 200 selected school heads, teachers, and student leaders from six schools in the municipality, namely, E. B. Magalona National High School (EBMNHS) Main Campus, EBMNHS Consing Extension, EBMNHS San Isidro Extension, EBMNHS Canlusong Annex, Tanza National High School, and St. Joseph Academy of Saravia.

The slogan of this year’s Municipal Environment Week is "Solutions to Plastic Pollution" with hashtag #BeatPlasticPollution.

Gracing the program were Vice Mayor Eric Matulac, who represented Mayor Marvin Malacon, Sangguniang Bayan Members Gilda Parcon, Edgardo Agravante Jr., Wyndel Depasucat, Jovie Madayag, Gelita Parcon, Reylan Gamboa Sr., Joey Pugales, and Isidro Gomed Jr., 23 barangay captains headed by SBM Rosalita Arsenal, president of the Liga ng mga Barangay, and St. Joseph the Worker Parish Priest Fr. Ernie Larida.

Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) officer-in-charge Joan Nathaniel Gerangaya delivered an inspirational message.

Resource speakers were:

  • PEMO- Technical Support Services Division head Maria Elena San Jose— "Laws of Nature"
  • PEMO coastal coordinator in E. B. Magalona Mafie Mosquera – "Importance of Mangrove Ecosystem"
  • DENR- EMB environmental management specialist Engr. Victor Thomas Ureta— "Solid Waste Management"
  • DENR- PENRO public information officer Ma. Theresa Pialago – "Role of the Youth in the Environmental Conservation"

MENRO-designate Jojo Vargas said the symposium focused on environmental conservation involving the teachers and student leaders, including those from YES-O and SSG (Supreme Student Government) organizations, as they are considered “influencers” in their respective schools in terms of information and education campaign.*
