The 35th Ugyonan Festival of the Municipality of E. B. Magalona officially kicked off today with a Grand Opening Ceremony at the Public Plaza, marking three days of highlight activities.

Thirty distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from E. B. Magalona attended a Values Formation and Financial Literacy Training at Tomongtong Mangrove Eco-Trail in Barangay Tomongtong recently.

The training was conducted by Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA)- Negros Occidental focal person Marbie Anne Ascaño, Family Welfare officer Jorelyn Alicaya, and program staff Myve Baynosa.

The activity was supported by the Office of Mayor Marvin Malacon, and in coordination with the OFWs Help Desk, headed by PESO manager-designate Maricris Chavez, and Migrants Help Desk focal person Liza Borja.

OWWA defines distressed OFWs as those who lost their jobs and were forced by circumstances to return to the country. The OFWs in distress are those having issues in healthcare, mental health, discrimination, labor problems, or immigration concerns that require medical attention, counseling, legal representation, and other kinds of intervention from the government.

The training featured activities like personality and behavioral development, and workshops to improve their socio-economic well -being while undergoing the process of reintegration into the society.

The participants said they are grateful to Mayor Marvin Malacon, OWWA, OFWs Help Desk, and Migrants Help Desk for helping them and for providing trainings for them.

They said the training on values formation will guide them in many aspects of their life, while the knowledge and skills on financial literacy will empower them to make informed financial decisions and be ready to seize economic opportunities.*
