The Municipality of E. B. Magalona hosted the Gawad Kalinga Provincial Kapitbahayan Assembly at the Public Plaza Sunday [May 7] to honor GK Homeowners (Kapitbahayan), youth, and their families from all the GK villages in Negros Occidental, including the one in Barangay Gahit of this municipality.

Mayor Marvin Malacon welcomed the GK Provincial Team, namely, GK provincial head Roberto “Bobby” Magalona, Butch Villanueva, Mikmik Bersuela, Provincial Child and Youth Development coordinator Emmanuel Delijero, and CFC- GK head Enrique Lacson.

Malacon also welcomed the 540 Kapitbahayan members and GK youth from the nine GK villages who gathered to celebrate another year of being part of GK Community of Negros Occidental. Kyle Adrianne Amor, Community Development coordinator for GK Western Visayas, said the Provincial Kapitbahayan Assembly also aims to inspire residents and youth from the GK Communities to become leaders. In a statement, GK said “[our] mission to end poverty for 5 million poor families by 2024 has taken us to new horizons and exciting new opportunities, especially in raising leaders from the grassroots, to take on the role imparted to us.”

The participants at the Provincial Kapitbahayan Assembly performed Zumba, interpretative, and festival dances.

“We would like to thank Mayor Marvin Malacon and the Municipality of E.B Magalona for accommodating our Kapitbahayan families,” the GK said in a Facebook post.

GK also thanked its heads, project directors, caretakers, and coordinators for a successful activity.*
