A 17-year-old Senior High School student from E. B. Magalona bagged the gold medal in the Javelin Throw competition at the recently concluded Palarong Panlalawigan (Provincial Meet) 2023 held from March 29 to April 2.

Jose Marie Yngson, a Grade 11 HUMSS student of E. B. Magalona National High School, displayed his winning form with his 48.61 meter record, bagging gold in Javelin Throw in the Secondary Athletics Boys category.

Aside from bagging the gold in the Javelin Throw, he also earned a silver medal in Shotput, and another silver in Discus Throw.

His events were held at the Manuel Y. Torres Sports Center in Bago City Saturday [April 1].

With his gold finish in the Javelin Throw, he will represent Negros Occidental in this particular sports event to the Regional Meet.

Yngson earlier won three gold medals - Discus Throw, Shotput, and Javelin Throw - at the Area III Athletic Meet 2023 held last March 17 to 19 in Talisay City.

"Securing a spot for the Regional Meet is a dream come true. I am very happy that I was able to win a gold medal in the Provincial Meet since this is my last year to compete and represent my beloved E.B. Magalona and Area III in the higher meets," the young athlete, who hails from Barangay Tabigue said.

Yngson has been competing in athletics since Grade 6, but because of the pandemic, he wasn’t able to continue his training.

"But when I heard that there will be sports meet again, I did not waste a single day to train and be the best athlete that I can be," he shared.

His coach, Teacher Aldin Arcangel, said that he saw Yngson's hard work and commitment to perform his best in all his sports events.

"Sir James Madrid, Sir Adonis Salumag, and I are very proud to have Jose Marie in the Area III Athletics Team," Arcangel added.

Yngson offers his medals to God, and dedicates his wins to his parents, family, friends, coaches, and everyone who supported and believed in him.

Yngson also thanked Mayor Marvin Malacon and Barangay Kagawads Association of Saravia (BAKAS) president Matthew Louis Malacon for sponsoring his javelin and throwing shoes, that he used at the Provincial Meet.*
