About 575 Senior High School students of E. B. Magalona National High School attended a Career Guidance and Employment Coaching at their school on April 17.
Mayor Marvin Malacon, Vice Mayor Eric Matulac, and Executive Assistant Matthew Louis Malacon also shared their respective advice and tips with the students.
Mayor Malacon said SHS students should undergo career orientation to give them professional guidance in their future career.
There has been a high number of job mismatches in the country, which occurs when college graduates work in jobs that they did not study for – caused by several factors, one of which is the lack of professional career coaching, Malacon added.
It’s okay to dream high, but one must know how to balance these aspirations with the realities on the ground, and couple it with prayers, hard work, and by being practical and street-smart, the mayor emphasized.
The career orientation was spearheaded by the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of the Municipal Government, in collaboration with the PESO – Negros Occidental Provincial Office.
Sharon Juance, head of PESO-Provincial Office, served as the resource speaker, and later answered questions from students during an open forum.
After the career coaching, representatives from the Social Security System – Victorias City Branch and Fast Aviation Academy based in Bacolod City conducted a career briefing with the students.
Also attending the activity were school principal Ethel Blancaflor, assistant school principal Gloria Gustilo, faculty assistant Anthony Patrata, and Mayor’s private secretary Joel Antonio.
Facilitating the activity were personnel of the PESO – E. B. Magalona, headed by PESO manager-designate Maricris Chavez.
Chavez said the career orientation aims to support and assist SHS students through professional guidance in identifying and achieving their career goals and to enhance their skills needed in job applications, like writing application letters and resumes, how to properly search for job opportunities, and what to do and answer during job interviews.*
