Another batch of beneficiaries from E. B. Magalona have received their wages under the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) – Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/ Displaced Workers (TUPAD) on Thursday, November 17.
A total of 611 residents have received their P4,500 wages for rendering 10 days of clean-up drive, during the cash payout facilitated by Victoria Diwata Borines, focal coordinator of DOLE-TUPAD Negros Occidental Field Office, and Jessilyn Plaza, manager of E. B. Magalona Public Employment Service Office (PESO), at the Public Plaza.
Today’s TUPAD fund was facilitated by Abang Lingkod Party-list Rep. Joseph Stephen Paduano, as requested by Mayor Marvin Malacon.
Joining Malacon at the payout program were Councilors Jovie Madayag and Isidro Gomed Jr.
Last October 18, a total of 677 residents had also received their P4,500 wages from DOLE TUPAD. It was facilitated by 3rd District Rep. Jose Francisco Benitez.
Malacon, in addressing today’s beneficiaries, said the local and national governments have a strong partnership in looking for ways to assist displaced and disadvantaged workers, as well as indigent residents and senior citizens.
The mayor also reiterated his encouragement to parents to prioritize sending their children to school despite the hardships, as this is one sure way to get out of poverty when their children become gainfully employed.
Meanwhile, Plaza said the TUPAD beneficiaries had conducted clean-up drive in their respective barangays for four hours a day for 10 days, with a rate of P450 per day or P4,500 for 10 days.
The beneficiaries were also given PPEs (personal protective equipment), comprised of long sleeves shirt, buri hat, and face masks, for use in the cleanup drive, she added.*
