5 more EB Magalona OFWs receive OWWA livelihood assistance

Five more overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from E. B. Magalona, who are either distressed or displaced, have received financial assistance from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), under its “Balik Pinas! Balik Hanapbuhay!” Program, today [March 24].

Four of them have received their checks at the Office of Mayor Marvin Malacon. They are Archie Lachica of Barangay Madalag, who received P10,000; Rosauro Aguilar of Barangay Alicante—P10,000; Wilyn Fernandez of Barangay Latasan—P20,000; and Brenda Medina of Poblacion II—P20,000.

Dorilyn Silfavan of Barangay Tanza has also received her check amounting to P20,000 through mail, as she is in Manila now, according to Liza Borja, focal person of the E. B. Magalona OFW Help Desk.

Leading the distribution of checks were OWWA-6 Family Welfare officer Jonelyn Alicaya, E. B. Magalona OFW Help Desk head Jessilyn Plaza and focal person Liza Borja, and Executive Assistant Debbie Ann Dioneo-Monte.

The OWWA program extends a package of livelihood support/ assistance to returning OFWs to provide immediate relief as startup or additional capital for their livelihood project.

The amount of assistance varies depending on their OWWA membership status.

Meanwhile, Plaza said this is now the fourth batch of OFWs from E. B. Magalona who have received livelihood assistance from OWWA this year. The first batch had five OFWs last January 12, the second batch had nine OFWs last March 3, and the third batch had 14 OFWs last March 16.

Plaza thanked OWWA-6 OIC-Regional Director Rizza Joy Moldes for the continued assistance to E. B. Magalona OFWs.*
