The Barangay Tuburan officials, assisted by the personnel of the Municipal Agriculturist’s Office and the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO), have intercepted 5 kilos of raw pork from Panay Island, at a wake in Sitio Panaosawon in Barangay Tuburan around 1:00 p.m. today [Oct. 25].

Tuburan Punong Barangay Ramonito Espacio Jr. said they have immediately burned the seized meat, that came from Barangay Daan Banwa Tapaz town, Province of Capiz.

Espacio said they were assisted by OIC-Municipal Agriculturist Efren Garcia Jr., Municipal Agriculturist's Office staff, and the PVO staff, when they seized the meat at the wake, and also when they burned it in the same sitio.

The woman, who hand-carried the meat with her, is visiting the wake of her relative in Sitio Panaosawon.

Punong Barangay Ramonito Espacio Jr. was visiting the wake to deliver their funeral assistance, when they were offered by the family to grill the pork. That’s when they learned that the pork came from Panay Island, where there are suspected cases of African Swine Fever (ASF).

Espacio then reported the matter to Mayor Marvin Malacon, as well as to the Municipal Agriculturist’s Office, and the PVO.*
