PLAQUE RECEIVED. Mary Angeline Gustilo, head of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), representing Mayor Marvin Malacon, received the plaque of recognition for the Municipality of E. B. Magalona as a national awardee for being a “Fully Compliant” Local Government Unit (LGU) in the 2022 Gawad KALASAG Seal for Excellence in DRRM and Humanitarian Assistance, at the national awarding ceremony at the Diversion 21 Hotel in Iloilo City on Nov. November 22, 2022.

“The E.B. Magalona DRRMO would like to thank Mayor Marvin Malacon, Vice Mayor Eric Matulac, and SB Members for the continued support and for making this award possible. To all the staff, responders, and drivers of EBM DRRMO, kudos for a job well done! Let us continue our advocacy on risk reduction and management and humanitarian assistance,” Gustilo said.

Malacon, who chairs the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC), earlier congratulated the MDDRMO and thanked the MDRRMC for the award when the announcement was made by the Office of the Civil Defense on Nov. 8.

This year, there are 135 "Beyond Compliant" LGUs and 436 "Fully Compliant" LGUs awardees.

"Your hard work and selflessness in helping our fellow Saraviahanons in times of disasters did not go unnoticed. Your brand of service is what put the Municipality of E. B. Magalona in the roster of excellent LGUs in the country in terms of disaster risk reduction and management," Malacon had said.

KALASAG, a term for "shield" used by early Filipinos to protect them from the attacks of enemies, also stands for "KAlamidad at Sakuna LAbanan, SAriling Galing ang Kaligtasan."

Gawad KALASAG, or GK, serves as the country's recognition and award scheme for LGUs and other stakeholders that promote disaster risk reduction and management scheme.*
