800 enthusiasts join Fun Run in E. B. Magalona

More than 800 running enthusiasts from various public and private agencies, non-government organizations, force multipliers, religious and volunteer groups, and organizations around Negros Occidental participated in the fun run in E. B. Magalona today.

Dubbed, "1st Cop Fun Run: Dalagan Para sa Tanan (Tumandok)," the activity was organized by the E. B. Magalona PNP, headed by its chief of police, Major Kenneth Jay Gratones.

Gratones thanked Mayor Marvin Malacon and Executive Assistant Matthew Louis Malacon as major sponsors of the activity.

Gratones also thanked Vice Mayor Eric Matulac and Sangguniang Bayan Members for supporting the activity.

Among the groups with big number of participants were BJMP Western Visayas, 605th Regional Maneuver Force Company, 1st Negros Occidental Provincial Mobile Force Company, Silay Component City Police Station headed by its chief of police, Lt. Col. Mark Anthony Darroca, Regional Anti-Cyber Crime Unit, DepEd E. B. Magalona, Panganiban Charities, Marayo Bank, and Silay Responsive Action of Concerned Citizens.

Also joining the fun run were Vice Mayor Eric Matulac, several members of Sangguniang Bayan, congressional staff of 3rd District Rep. Jose Francisco "Kiko" Benitez, Silay City Councilor Ryan Gamboa, barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials of all the 23 barangays of E. B. Magalona, employees of the Municipal Government including BFP and MDRRMO, teachers, students, and pupils from various schools, members of religious groups including Fr. Ernie Larida of St. Joseph the Worker Parish, members of LGBT community, and personnel of law enforcement agencies.

The E. B. Magalona PNP also awarded cash prizes to 12 winners of 5-kilometer run and 3- kilometer run, with six winners each for both male and female participants for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places.

The 3-km fun run started at the Public Plaza going to old VRESCO, then to Elias Magbanua monument, and back to Public Plaza.

The 5-km fun run, meanwhile, started at the Public Plaza going to old VRESCO, then to I-Kulotz Mini-Resort (along the highway), then back to the Public Plaza.

The program started at 4:30 a. m. and ended at 7:30 a. m.

Proceeds from the fun run will be used to take care of sexual abuse victims and assist indigent residents of the Municipality.
