A total of 253 barangay officials from the Municipality of E. B.Magalona underwent a two-day orientation on effective barangay administration, at Resorts Negrense in Bacolod City last March 25-26.

The activity was called Basic Orientation for the Barangay Newly Elected Officials (BNEO) towards GREAT (Grassroots Renewal and Empowerment for Accountable and Transparent) Barangays.

The participants were composed of all Punong Barangays, Sangguniang Barangay Members (Kagawad), Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Chairpersons, Barangay Secretaries, and Barangay Treasurers from all the 23 barangays of E. B. Magalona.

It was spearheaded by the Liga ng mga Barangay, headed by its president, Sangguniang Bayan Member Marlon Malacon, and DILG- E. B. Magalona, headed by Local Government Operations Officer Atty. Pierra Fuentespina- Lamayo.

Lamayo said the recently concluded orientation was part of a series of DILG trainings to enhance the capacities of barangay officials and staff on effective barangay administration.

“These will help them jumpstart their leadership journey toward community development,” she added.

The orientation covered seven sessions discussed by resource persons from the Ombudsman for the Visayas, Integrated Bar of the Philippines - Negros Occidental Chapter, DILG Negros Occidental Provincial Office, and the Municipal Government of E. B. Magalona:

Retired Judge Gorgonio Ybañez and Atty. Gerry Llena tackled the basics of Katarungang Pambarangay.
Sangguniang Bayan Member Gilda Parcon, who is the acting vice mayor this week, attended the orientation to give support and encouragement to barangay officials.*
